The installation transforms the everyday experience of sitting into a social experiment. Users must physically balance their positions according to their weight—a tangible metaphor for democratic compromise. If the distance between them is too small or the weight distribution is uneven, the bench loses its balance. The right balance can only be achieved through coordination and mutual consideration.
Unlike conventional benches, the balance bench is mounted on a central cylindrical base that creates a rocking effect. Horizontal stability is only achieved when several users coordinate their positions and create a balance.
Die Balancebank greift spielerisch die Spannung zwischen Nähe und Distanz im öffentlichen Raum auf.
