From the series: birch layers

The multiplex veneer consists of multiple wood layers and is the result of highly technological industrial wood processing. In the works of the series, it serves both as a motif and as the carrier material: a color copy of the even structure of the birch veneer, whose lines evoke delicate hand drawings, is printed onto the surface of the plywood panel. The grain patterns of the original and its depiction overlap and geometric shapes emerge. The origin of the material, the tree with all its components, already estranged through the industrial processing, disappears entirely through artistic intervention. Isolated from its natural environment, wood as a material gains a new context as a cultural object. The works reference the decoupling between industrially produced wood building materials and the origin of these materials, reflecting human intervention in nature and its sensitive ecosystems.
