From the series: original / copy

Various components of the birch tree serve as central motifs in the mini-series ‘Original / Copy’. A three-dimensional birch fragment is complemented by a color copy that depicts the missing part of the sculptural element in the form of a two-dimensional print. The reproduction looks deceptively similar to its origin. Only upon closer inspection can one discern the transitions between the original and the copy. The ambivalent relationship of similarity, difference, and identity unfolds along the perceptual boundaries between natural and artificial landscapes. The works address the reciprocal reference between nature and culture and reflect on human intervention in nature and its sensitive ecosystems.
