Treptower Park is repeatedly affected by vandalism. For the conception of the temporary installation “The money is on the street”, vandalism serves as an artistic starting point and is integrated into the site-specific work as an interactive element. Three hollow concrete cubes covered with 1-cent coins stand at the end of a path in Treptower Park. A bought-in exposed aggregate concrete slab is attached to the top of each of the blocks of different heights, so that they appear to have been pressed up out of the ground from below. The coins are cast into the concrete, but remain clearly visible and glisten in the sunlight during the day. They are deliberately positioned so that they can be broken out with effort or with the right tools. This interaction is desired – vandalism is transformed into a creative component of the artistic work. The installation follows an experimental approach: what happens to the three blocks over the course of the summer? Do they remain intact or do they change due to external influences from passers-by?
